Salisbury Steak

Ingredients:

• 1 lb ground beef• ½ cup breadcrumbs• 1 egg• 1 small onion, finely chopped (divided)• 2 cloves garlic, minced• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce• ½ tsp salt• ½ tsp black pepper• 2 tbsp butter• 8 oz mushrooms, sliced• 2 cups beef broth• 1 tbsp cornstarch• 2 tbsp water

Method:

1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, half of the chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.

2. Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

3. In the same skillet, cook the remaining onion and mushrooms until softened. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Mix the cornstarch with the water, then stir it into the broth until the gravy thickens.

4. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon the gravy over them, and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
